From Cuttings to Trees

Nurturing New Beginnings

The propagation of trees is a fascinating process that allows us to create new life from existing ones. At Wyevale, we take great pride in our expertise in carefully selecting and preparing tree cuttings, plus the methodology and time it takes for these cuttings to transform into thriving trees, carrying the legacy of their decades-old ancestors.

Selecting and Preparing Cuttings

The branches, known as cuttings, need to strike a balance between being old enough to have a strong genetic identity and young enough to possess the necessary vigor for successful propagation.

The branches we look for are healthy, free from diseases, pests, or any visible damage. They have vibrant foliage, strong growth, and no signs of wilting or discoloration. These are typically found on the middle portion of the tree, neither at the tip nor the base.

Nurturing Root Development

During the incubation period, the cuttings are placed in a dedicated propagation area. This space provides optimal conditions for root development, protecting them from extreme weather conditions.

The cuttings are planted in a suitable rooting medium, like a mixture of soil and sand or a specialized rooting compound. Maintaining the right balance of moisture, warmth, and humidity is crucial for keeping the cuttings alive after being removed from the tree.

Patience and Monitoring

Root development takes time, requiring patience and consistent monitoring. Horticulturists carefully observe the cuttings, making necessary adjustments to create the ideal conditions for successful rooting.

Moisture levels, temperature, disease and pest presence, nutrient balance, air circulation, rooting medium, and the application of rooting hormones are all factors in successful root development.

Planting Out

Once the young plants have established a robust root system and have acclimatized, they are ready for planting. Our experienced team carefully selects suitable locations based on soil type, sunlight exposure, and available space for optimal growth. Each young tree is planted with care, ensuring proper depth, firmness, and alignment.

Becoming Strong New Plants

These cuttings transform into vigorous and robust plants, in their transformation into maturity they develop sturdy root systems, lush foliage, and resilient stems. The plants receives diligent care and monitoring for ensure optimal growth and vitality. Once they have reached their full potential, they are carefully processed and prepared for you, our valued customers.
