Dryopteris erythrosora (Autumn fern)
This elegant evergreen fern offers striking seasonal colour with new fronds that emerge coppery pink before maturing to glossy dark green, creating beautiful contrast in shady spots. The triangular fronds form neat, arching clumps that provide year round interest, as the foliage persists through mild winters. Thriving in moist, well drained soil enriched with organic matter, it adapts well to partial or full shade, making it perfect for woodland gardens and shaded borders. Unlike many ferns, it shows good drought tolerance once established while remaining resistant to pests and diseases. The colourful new growth and low maintenance nature make it an excellent choice for adding texture and visual appeal to challenging shady areas.
