Griselinia littoralis (Broadleaf)
Renowned for its resilience and lush appearance, this evergreen shrub forms dense hedges of rounded, glossy leaves in a vibrant apple green shade that maintains its colour throughout the year. The leathery foliage withstands salty coastal winds exceptionally well, outperforming many other hedging plants in exposed seaside locations. Its natural bushy habit creates thick, impenetrable screens quickly, while responding well to regular trimming for formal shapes or left to grow into a more informal barrier. Small, inconspicuous yellow green flowers in spring may develop into purple berries on female plants, adding subtle seasonal interest. Adaptable to most well drained soils and urban conditions, it offers gardeners a robust, low maintenance solution for creating privacy and shelter in challenging environments.
