Aucuba japonica (Spotted Laurel) 'Variegata'
Glossy green leaves generously splashed with creamy yellow variegation create year round interest, brightening even the shadiest garden corners. The bold foliage maintains its striking colour contrast through all seasons, forming dense evergreen mounds that provide excellent structure in borders. Small purple flowers appear in spring, occasionally developing into vibrant red berries on female plants when pollinated. Remarkably resilient, it thrives in challenging urban environments with poor soils, air pollution and dry shade where other shrubs might struggle. Perfect for creating low hedges or foundation plantings, its colourful leaves bring light to dark areas while requiring minimal care.
