This native deciduous tree is a wildlife haven, offering fragrant white spring flowers, glossy red autumn berries, and dense thorny branches that provide excellent nesting sites. The deeply lobed leaves turn rich copper and gold in autumn, while the vibrant haws persist through winter, feeding birds when other food is scarce. Its rugged, twisted trunk and gnarled branches add character to landscapes, maturing into a beautifully shaped specimen. Exceptionally hardy, it thrives in exposed sites, poor soils, and urban conditions, making it perfect for hedgerows, windbreaks, or ornamental planting. A superb all rounder that supports biodiversity while offering year round interest with minimal maintenance required.
