Pittosporum tenuifolium (Variegated Kohuhu) 'Tom Thumb'
A miniature marvel among evergreen shrubs, with tiny purple black leaves forming dense, naturally rounded mounds that bring year round structure to borders and containers. The deep burgundy foliage maintains its rich colour through all seasons, developing darker tones in full sun while retaining its compact form. Tiny fragrant flowers appear along the stems in late spring, their chocolatey scent most noticeable during warm evenings. More diminutive than most pittosporums, its perfectly proportioned size makes it ideal for small gardens, rockeries or patio pots where space is limited. Resilient to coastal conditions and urban pollution, it thrives in sun or partial shade while tolerating most well drained soils. Perfect for adding depth to contemporary planting schemes, the dark foliage contrasts beautifully with silver or golden companions. A superb choice for low maintenance year round interest in courtyards, formal gardens or as punctuation in mixed borders.
