Bareroot Populus nigra (Lombardy Poplar) 'Italica'
Towering and slender, this distinctive fastigiate tree adds dramatic vertical punctuation to landscapes with its narrowly columnar silhouette. The upward sweeping branches are clothed in glossy, diamond shaped leaves that tremble beautifully in the slightest breeze, flashing their pale undersides to create a shimmering effect. Unlike broader spreading poplars, its exceptionally narrow form makes it perfect for avenues, screens or tight spaces where height is desired without excessive spread. The dark, furrowed bark develops handsome texture with age, while the golden autumn foliage provides a striking seasonal display. Exceptionally hardy and quick growing, it thrives in most soil conditions including damp ground, making it particularly valuable for creating instant impact in new planting schemes.
