Dryopteris cycadina (Shaggy Wood Fern)
Often called the Shaggy Wood Fern for its distinctive black scaled midribs, which create a striking textural contrast against the bright green fronds. Its elegant, arching foliage emerges in a beautiful upright shuttlecock, providing a strong architectural form that holds its shape well throughout the season. This semi evergreen fern is remarkably hardy and adaptable, performing well in a range of shady conditions from moist woodlands to drier, sheltered borders. Its unique colouration and robust nature make it an excellent choice for adding sophisticated, year round structure to the garden.
