Polystichum setiferum (Soft Shield Fern) 'Herrenhausen'
A particularly handsome and robust fern, forming a large, shuttlecock shaped clump of soft, dark green fronds that are finely divided and have a lush, feathery appearance. Its arching foliage remains evergreen in milder winters, providing valuable structure and colour in the shady garden throughout the year. This hardy and adaptable plant thrives in moist, well drained soil and is an excellent choice for underplanting beneath trees or for creating a calm, green oasis in a woodland border. Its graceful, architectural form makes it a superb companion for other shade loving plants like hostas and hellebores.
