Variant

A majestic native oak that forms a broad, spreading crown with sturdy, twisted branches, renowned for its longevity and stately presence in the landscape. The deeply lobed leaves emerge fresh green in spring, maturing to dark green before turning rich golden brown in autumn, often persisting on the branches well into winter. Unlike its close relatives, it thrives on poorer, free draining soils where its deep taproot makes it exceptionally drought resistant once established. The acorns grow in clusters on long stalks, providing valuable food for wildlife. Slow growing yet ultimately massive, this tree makes an outstanding specimen for parkland and large gardens, developing magnificent gnarled character with age while supporting countless species of insects, birds and mammals. A truly noble tree that becomes more impressive with each passing century.
