Bareroot Ribes sanguineum (Flowering Currant)
A deciduous shrub that heralds spring with a spectacular display of pendulous pink flower clusters, appearing on bare branches before the leaves emerge. The lobed, aromatic foliage unfolds after flowering, creating a fresh green backdrop for other plants through summer. Growing with an upright, bushy habit, it thrives in most well drained soils and prefers sunny positions, though it tolerates partial shade. The flowers attract early pollinators while the blue black berries that follow provide food for birds. Particularly valued for its early seasonal colour and wildlife appeal, it makes an excellent addition to mixed borders or informal hedges. A robust and low maintenance choice that brings vibrant spring interest to gardens when little else is in bloom.
