Variant

A robust and showy shrub rose that makes a dramatic statement in the garden with its large, single crimson pink flowers that bloom continuously from early summer into autumn. The deeply veined, dark green leaves have a leathery texture that resists disease, while the stems are densely covered in straight thorns, forming an impenetrable thicket. After flowering, the plant produces exceptionally large, tomato shaped orange red hips that add autumn interest and provide food for birds. Thriving in coastal conditions and poor soils where other roses might struggle, it grows with a vigorous, spreading habit that makes it ideal for informal hedges or as a tough, low maintenance specimen. The flowers emit a light clove like fragrance, and the whole plant excels in challenging urban and exposed sites where its rugged beauty shines through with minimal care.
