Variant

A resilient deciduous shrub that brightens winter gardens with its dense clusters of pure white berries, which persist long after the small pink tinged summer flowers have faded. The oval blue green leaves create a pleasant backdrop through the growing season before turning a subtle yellow in autumn. Well suited to challenging spots, it thrives in poor soils, dry shade, and exposed positions where other plants might struggle, making it perfect for woodland edges or low maintenance areas. The arching stems form a dense thicket over time, providing excellent cover for nesting birds while resisting damage from deer. Unlike many berry bearing shrubs, it tolerates hard pruning, allowing it to be maintained as a neat hedge or left to grow naturally into an informal screen.
