One of the earliest flowering French lavenders, bursting into bloom from late spring with impressively large purple flower heads topped with extravagant lilac bracts resembling butterfly wings. The substantial blooms stand proudly above aromatic grey green foliage, creating a striking display that lasts well into summer. Unlike many lavenders, its flower spikes remain vibrant for an extended period, offering weeks of colour in borders or containers. The strong stems and robust growth habit make it particularly resilient in windy spots where other varieties might falter. Bees and butterflies find the nectar rich flowers irresistible, bringing constant movement to the garden. While thriving in full sun and well drained soil, it adapts better to slightly more moisture than typical Mediterranean varieties. The fragrant flowers dry beautifully for crafts and potpourri, maintaining their vivid colour and scent long after cutting.
